Delete, move, extract: how to organise the pages of a PDF
October 28, 2026 · 3 min read
A scan with blank pages in between, a report whose appendix ended up in the middle, a contract whose terms and conditions must be removed before sending, a file of which you only want to share three pages: organising PDF pages is an everyday task. Instead of reprinting and rescanning everything, a few clicks are enough.
This guide covers the different ways to organise a PDF (delete, reorder, extract), the right tool for each need, and good practices.
Which tool for which need?
| Need | Tool |
|---|---|
| Remove one or more pages | Delete PDF Pages |
| Change the order of pages | Reorder PDF Pages |
| Keep only a few pages in a new file | Extract PDF Pages |
| Split a PDF into several files | Split PDF |
| Turn a page the right way up | Rotate PDF |
| Do all of this while also editing content | Edit PDF |
Delete pages from a PDF
- Open Delete PDF Pages and drop your document.
- Click the pages to delete: they appear faded, and the number of selected pages is shown.
- Click Download to get the PDF without those pages.
Typical cases: blank pages from a double-sided scan, a useless cover page, duplicated terms and conditions, a confidential appendix that should not be shared.
Reorder the pages of a PDF
- Open Reorder PDF Pages and drop your document.
- Each page appears with its position and original page number. Use Move up and Move down to move it.
- Click Download.
The original number of each page stays visible next to its new position, so you don't get lost in a long document.
Extract pages into a new file
Extract PDF Pages works like deleting, in reverse: you select the pages to keep, and you get a new PDF containing only those. Ideal for sending a single certificate taken from a long file.
To get several files at once (for example one file per chapter), use Split PDF and its page ranges instead.
Do everything in the editor
If you also need to fix text or add a signature or logo, the PDF editor includes a Pages panel: move pages with Move up and Move down, delete them with Delete. And if you make a mistake, Undo (Ctrl+Z) brings back a deleted page or puts a page back in its place.
Good practices
- Work on a copy and keep the original, especially for a signed or official document.
- Check the page count of the final file before sending it.
- Renumber if needed: if your document shows printed page numbers, they do not change automatically. Add new numbering with Add Page Numbers.
- Watch out for digital signatures: changing the order or number of pages in a digitally signed document invalidates its signature.
Check the order in the final file
Use a simple example to verify the result: in a six-page document labelled P01 to P06, delete P04 and move P06 after P01. The new PDF should contain five pages in this order: P01, P06, P02, P03, P05.
- Read through the downloaded PDF and compare the visible labels; moving a page does not renumber its printed page number.
- Check any bookmarks or internal links you need after reordering.
- Keep the original separately so you can recover a removed page.
Frequently asked questions
Are these tools free?
Deleting, reordering and extracting pages are Premium tools. Split PDF and Rotate PDF are free, up to 5 files per day.
Does page quality change?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without recompression: text stays selectable and images keep their quality.
Can I get a deleted page back?
Not in the downloaded file: keep the original. In the editor, yes, as long as you haven't saved: Undo restores it.
Can I organise the pages of a protected PDF?
Yes, if you know its password: you are asked for it when the file opens.
